OPPORTUNITY 🇺🇸✨

On the morning of America’s 250th Anniversary, as a citizen of this country, there is one word that completely consumes my mind: Opportunity.

In a digital age filled with saturated conversations and deep division, it can feel exhausting to search for common ground. We’ve heard words like patriotism, independence, liberty, and democracy repeated all week—everyone offering an opinion, good or bad. But if there is a single word that can truly bring us together, I hope the word opportunity passes the test.

Having traveled to more than 43 countries around the world, I can tell you firsthand: nothing compares to the landscape of opportunity available to those living in the United States. I’ve had conversations abroad that are difficult to put into words—meeting people who would willingly give up everything they own just for a chance to live here. It often leaves me checking my own perspective. Why do I complain? Why do I focus so much on where we fall short, instead of remembering how blessed we are?

My mind keeps returning to the Preamble of the United States Constitution:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”

When I look at my own history, I see that the American promise of opportunity has been quietly weaving through my lineage for generations:

  • In 1940, in the deep South of Mississippi during the height of Jim Crow, my maternal great, great-grandfather managed to purchase and own his home (valued at $600).
  • In the 1950s, my paternal grandfather built and ran a successful masonry business, while his brothers established their own self-made businesses in the Midwest.
  • And for myself? Having spent my early years living in government housing, the opportunity I see today leaves me in awe.

Today, I witnessed the next generation of my family receiving our very first college doctorate degree. I have the opportunity to run a growing, self-made international travel business that is on track to potentially gross over $500K in 2027. Most importantly, I have the opportunity to watch my family thrive and achieve their dreams.

Every single day is a new opportunity.

I am deeply grateful that God has allowed me to walk this Earth, and I’m thankful that in the lottery of life, He chose the United States of America for me. Happy Semiquincentennial, everyone! 🎉
