OPPORTUNITY 🇺🇸✨

On the morning of America’s 250th Anniversary, as a citizen of this country, there is one word that completely consumes my mind: Opportunity.

In a digital age filled with saturated conversations and deep division, it can feel exhausting to search for common ground. We’ve heard words like patriotism, independence, liberty, and democracy repeated all week—everyone offering an opinion, good or bad. But if there is a single word that can truly bring us together, I hope the word opportunity passes the test.

Having traveled to more than 43 countries around the world, I can tell you firsthand: nothing compares to the landscape of opportunity available to those living in the United States. I’ve had conversations abroad that are difficult to put into words—meeting people who would willingly give up everything they own just for a chance to live here. It often leaves me checking my own perspective. Why do I complain? Why do I focus so much on where we fall short, instead of remembering how blessed we are?

My mind keeps returning to the Preamble of the United States Constitution:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”

When I look at my own history, I see that the American promise of opportunity has been quietly weaving through my lineage for generations:

  • In 1940, in the deep South of Mississippi during the height of Jim Crow, my maternal great, great-grandfather managed to purchase and own his home (valued at $600).
  • In the 1950s, my paternal grandfather built and ran a successful masonry business, while his brothers established their own self-made businesses in the Midwest.
  • And for myself? Having spent my early years living in government housing, the opportunity I see today leaves me in awe.

Today, I witnessed the next generation of my family receiving our very first college doctorate degree. I have the opportunity to run a growing, self-made international travel business that is on track to potentially gross over $500K in 2027. Most importantly, I have the opportunity to watch my family thrive and achieve their dreams.

Every single day is a new opportunity.

I am deeply grateful that God has allowed me to walk this Earth, and I’m thankful that in the lottery of life, He chose the United States of America for me. Happy Semiquincentennial, everyone! 🎉

Tribute to the Women Behind Our Success🌹

Let me share a precious, black and white photo of my beautiful mother.

I made a conscious choice not to use AI to smooth out the lines of time or erase the yellowed transparent tape holding the edges together. I wanted to keep it exactly as it is: perfectly preserved by love and the years gone by.

Sometimes in life, a whisper falls into your spirit that you simply cannot ignore. That “I-have-to-do-it” moment hit me this past February while sitting in my home office here in Atlanta.  Here’s my Mom (and her elder Sister) story:

These beautiful, matching caramel hands below tell a story that began in the early 1940s. As part of the Great Migration, these two sisters—just five and seven years old—left Mississippi to be raised by their grandparents in the North.

They transitioned from country life to the city, eventually becoming matriarchs who raised seven and eight children, respectively. They survived it all: the sting of racism, the pain of abandonment, and the trials of marriage. Yet, they never wavered in their commitment to their children. I asked my Aunt (who lives in Chicago) if she would like to visit her sister (my Mom in Detroit). Nervously, I hope she would say “Yes.” She did…

Now octogenarians and together again since 2013, they spent last week sharing Chinese food and stories, their sisterly bond as bright as the sun that broke through gray clouds that day. Their journey proves that while life is finite, love is infinite.

Today, my mother spends her days resting in a warm bed, cared for by a truly loving staff in Michigan. Her beautiful wit is still as sharp as ever, and our weekly Monday phone calls are the highlight of my week.

I organized the trip for my aunt to go see her younger sister. Bringing them together taught me a few unforgettable lessons that I want to share with you:

  • Travel with purpose: If you cannot find a reason to go for yourself, do it to bring joy to someone else . đź§“
  • She deserves more than brunch: Our mothers gave us the world ; a single Sunday meal once a year isn’t enough. 🍽
  • Skip the paper card: Mama doesn’t want a generic card from a store; she wants your time. ⏳
  • Flowers fade, memories live forever: A bouquet lasts a week , but a shared moment lasts a lifetime. 🥀
