Tribute to the Women Behind Our Success🌹

Let me share a precious, black and white photo of my beautiful mother.

I made a conscious choice not to use AI to smooth out the lines of time or erase the yellowed transparent tape holding the edges together. I wanted to keep it exactly as it is: perfectly preserved by love and the years gone by.

Sometimes in life, a whisper falls into your spirit that you simply cannot ignore. That “I-have-to-do-it” moment hit me this past February while sitting in my home office here in Atlanta.  Here’s my Mom (and her elder Sister) story:

These beautiful, matching caramel hands below tell a story that began in the early 1940s. As part of the Great Migration, these two sisters—just five and seven years old—left Mississippi to be raised by their grandparents in the North.

They transitioned from country life to the city, eventually becoming matriarchs who raised seven and eight children, respectively. They survived it all: the sting of racism, the pain of abandonment, and the trials of marriage. Yet, they never wavered in their commitment to their children. I asked my Aunt (who lives in Chicago) if she would like to visit her sister (my Mom in Detroit). Nervously, I hope she would say “Yes.” She did…

Now octogenarians and together again since 2013, they spent last week sharing Chinese food and stories, their sisterly bond as bright as the sun that broke through gray clouds that day. Their journey proves that while life is finite, love is infinite.

Today, my mother spends her days resting in a warm bed, cared for by a truly loving staff in Michigan. Her beautiful wit is still as sharp as ever, and our weekly Monday phone calls are the highlight of my week.

I organized the trip for my aunt to go see her younger sister. Bringing them together taught me a few unforgettable lessons that I want to share with you:

  • Travel with purpose: If you cannot find a reason to go for yourself, do it to bring joy to someone else . 🧓
  • She deserves more than brunch: Our mothers gave us the world ; a single Sunday meal once a year isn’t enough. 🍽
  • Skip the paper card: Mama doesn’t want a generic card from a store; she wants your time. ⏳
  • Flowers fade, memories live forever: A bouquet lasts a week , but a shared moment lasts a lifetime. 🥀

Is there a place your mother has been dreaming of visiting with you? Maybe she mentioned it in passing back in 2008, and life simply got in the way.

Your mother deserves a beautiful story that she can smile about and retell for the next twenty years. If your mother is no longer here with you, perhaps it’s a favorite aunt, elder sister, or a senior person you look up to in church.  Let us help you take her there. Book an adventure with us – next Sunday will never be the same!  Her face will tell it all…
